Jeep is a division of Fiat Chrysler. It was a division of American Motors Corporation (AMC) before AMC was acquired by Chrysler. Later on, Chrysler was acquired by Fiat, now making Jeep an Italian-owned company; although it is still headquartered in Ohio and mostly manufactured in the USA. See also American Auto Repair.
Jeep has a significant history producing military vehicles, especially during World War II. Some of their models, including the Jeep Wrangler, have evolved from the military models and are given the label “CJ”, which stands for “Civilian Jeep”.
Jeep was the crossover before “crossovers” were even a thing in the automotive world. While they are not as heavy-duty as other truck-like vehicles, they are made more for off-roading than other crossovers. Any other vehicle which resembles Jeep vehicles, including the Hummer or Land Rover, is said to be Jeep-like since their traditional square-shaped frames are so easily recognized.
