Hummer is a discontinued subsidiary of General Motors. The Hummer was modeled after the Humvee military vehicle. The existence of the brand and consumer version of the “Hummer” was largely due to the campaigning of actor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He saw an army convoy while filming the movie Kindergarden Cop and decided he wanted one (or two). He bought the first two H1 models ever sold.

In December 1999 General Motors bought the AM General brand which developed the military Humvee and created the new Hummer subsidiary. Unfortunately due to the economic recession related to the housing market in 2008-2010, General Motors had to reorganize to stay in business. Hummer was one of the subsidiaries that was discontinued in 2009.

Hummer only produced three models. The H1 most closely resembles the military Humvee and was released in 1992. The H2 model extended to the rear of the cab to include the cargo space and redesigned the interior for more space overall. It was sold between 2002 and 2009. The H3 is the most recent model which is the smallest of the three and shared a similar drive train and frame with the Chevy Colorado. It was sold from 2005 to 2010.

Although these models are no longer in production they can still be serviced since either General Motors will provide parts or there are aftermarket parts available.
