Crawford’s Auto Repair is a family-owned automotive repair shop in Chandler, AZ serving customers from Chandler, Gilbert, Sun Lakes and the surrounding area of the East Valley. One of the reasons we went into business was to be different from the rest of the auto repair industry. There are a lot of good shops out there, we’re not saying they’re all bad. But we didn’t like certain elements of the industry which seem to be standard. It’s not uncommon for service writers in some places to be paid by commissions and are therefore motivated to add unnecessary services to the bill. At Crawford’s Auto Repair, we don’t get paid by commissions and we never try to sell unnecessary repairs. We have a policy of giving a straight-forward presentation of any findings after inspecting the vehicle and then letting the customer decide how to proceed with no pressure. We strive to provide quality that you can trust.
Automotive Education From Crawford’s Auto Repair
Our service policy is one thing that distinguishes Crawford’s from other shops; another distinguishing factor is that we are a proponent of automotive education for the consumer. As you browse through the rest of our site you’ll find that it is very educational. You can learn a lot just by reading our service pages. In addition to those pages we’ve created and dedicated this entire educational section for at least 4 reasons:
One, maybe it will inspire someone young or old to become an auto mechanic, either at home or professionally. Automobiles are fascinating pieces of machinery and its awesome working on them for a living as well as as a hobby! If you feel proficient enough to do some repairs on your vehicle at home, we hope you’ll come to us for the more challenging repairs that you don’t feel comfortable doing. Initially, much of our education was based on an outline for the Automotive Merit badge from the Boy Scouts of America. Boy Scouts can use these materials to acquire that merit badge, but of course, you don’t have to be a scout to benefit from the information provided.
Two, it helps the common consumer communicate with the technician better. Better communication between the technician and the vehicle owner can help reduce service times and improve diagnostics. The technician may have more technical knowledge, but the driver is the one who is familiar with the symptoms of the vehicle and the situations in which they occur. Also, after an inspection, the technician may come back to the customer using verbiage that the average customer might not understand. This educational section can help reduce that.
Three, it helps the common consumer be more maintenance savvy with their vehicle. If the vehicle is maintained properly then you don’t have to spend as much on repairs over time and this helps you save money. There are things you can do at home and while driving which extend the life of your vehicle, and it’s even better for your vehicle when these are done in addition to professional maintenance services, which are most commonly performed at every oil change.
Four, it helps protect the consumer from predatory sales tactics. If you have the knowledge regarding a certain part or system of your vehicle, then a service writer won’t be able to sell you services that you don’t need.
