What Is Included With The Free Inspection And Free Quote?
The words “free inspection” and “free quote” could be used synonymously. The major distinction is that the inspection has to be performed before the quote can be written out, but they go hand in hand.
The free inspection includes up to an hour of inspecting the vehicle whether it’s a specific part or system, diagnosing symptoms, or doing a general overview. A general overview is useful for safety, landmark mileage or an upcoming road trip.
An hour or less is sufficient to diagnose the overwhelming majority of vehicle issues that come into the shop. However, if by chance the issue that we are investigating is part of a part or system that is particularly hard to access, then the inspection might take longer than an hour, especially if it involves any amount if disassembling and reassembling. If we’ve inspected what we could for an hour and we need more time to determine the problem or if by experience we know in advance that a particular inspection will take longer than an hour, then there could be a fee involved. Of course we would discuss that with you before doing anything and get your approval before proceeding.
After the inspection is completed we will give you a written quote that outlines the findings and what it would take to get your vehicle repaired. We will present all findings. For some vehicles which have not been maintained, are advanced in mileage or used in severe conditions the list may be extensive. This is not an attempt to up-sell or oversell you; again our policy is to never sell unnecessary repairs. Yet, as the owner of the vehicle you still need to know everything which we’ve found in the inspection. Our goal is to provide you with quality service and that comes with open and straightforward communication. If you have any issues with your current budget and you need to prioritize the timing of repairs, we will help you do that accordingly.
A used car evaluation is performed for individuals who do not own the vehicle but are thinking about purchasing it from the owner or for individuals who are thinking about selling the vehicle. A used car evaluation does not qualify for free inspections, but there are still significant benefits to having this evaluation before purchasing or selling the vehicle. Learn more about the used car evaluation.
General Inspection
The general inspection is included with every Oil Change & Works Package. It’s where we do a general overview of the entire vehicle, staring with the exterior lighting (turn signals, emergency signals, etc.), next we do an inspection under the hood and then lift the vehicle to inspect underneath. Additional details are below under specific inspections. Usually it also includes a test drive of the vehicle.
A general overview inspection is what we would perform for standard maintenance, landmark mileage checks (30,000 miles, 90,000 miles and 150,000 miles) or if you’re going on a road trip.
Specific Inspections
The general inspection above is the default inspection unless your vehicle is manifesting specific symptoms which need to be addressed. In this case you’d receive a custom inspection that is focused on diagnosing the actual problem or source of those symptoms. The following is a list of common specific inspections that we perform.
Free Safety Check – A free safety check is included almost every time you bring the vehicle into the shop. We do this because it helps keep people safe. It includes tires, external lighting, dash and interior lights, wiper blades, wiper fluid, levels and conditions of all fluids, battery, terminal cables, and brakes. Learn more about the Free Safety Check.
Free Brake Check – Brakes are probably the most important safety feature of automobiles. The Free Brake Check involves lifting the vehicle and removing the tires. Then the pads, rotors, calipers and hydraulic system are inspected. Learn more about the Free Brake Check.
Free AC Check – A free AC check includes a temperature measurement at the vents and visual inspection of the AC system. We try to avoid opening the system if possible so that’s only done if a leak is suspected or if the AC needs to be recharged. Learn more about the Free AC Check.
Free Check Engine Light Diagnostic – If the check engine light is illuminated on your dashboard then it should be checked fairly soon. Your vehicle will not pass an emissions test if it is on. Learn more about the Free Check Engine Light Diagnostic.
Free Warning Light Inspection – Of course there are more warning lights besides the Check Engine Light. If your vehicle has any warning lights illuminated then we can perform an inspection for the systems related to that specific light. Some lights are more severe warnings than others, other dashboard lights could simply be indicators and not warnings. Learn more with the Dashboard Warning Light Guide.
